Porsche Unveils Exclusive Electric Sports Boat Based On Its Future Supercar

As a preview of the drive technology in its forthcoming Macan Electric, Porsche has teamed up with Austrian Frauscher Shipyard to come up with an exclusive sports boat. The day cruiser, based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air, offers travelers “excellent driving characteristics.”
The first-edition launch of the watercraft will comprise 25 units, and is scheduled to begin shipping in 2024. According to the automaker, the 8.67-meter-long (28.4-foot-long) boat features impressive attributes that distinguish it from other electric vessels on the market.
Said to “set the standards on the water with its typical Porsche E-Performance,” the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air stands out with its impressive acceleration, strong pulling power, superior performance, and of course, its luxurious design.
“We stand for state-of-the-art, high-performance, and sustainable luxury—and we are redefining this concept. Our goal is to inspire our customers and make their dreams come true,” said Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman at Porsche AG.
“Electric drives are also increasingly important in our industry as well. On the one hand, they are increasingly enjoying more social acceptance, and on the other, our customers are very happy about the advantages of electromobility,” added Stefan Frauscher, CEO at Frauscher Shipyard.
To bring its drive technology to the water, Porsche optimized settings typically suited for road vehicles for use on the watercraft. This allows for drivers to use the impressive Premium Platform Electric (PPE) model that the future Macan Electric will be based on.
The automaker’s first-ever electric supercar will include a lithium-ion high voltage battery with 100 kWh capacity, a lastest-generation synchronous electric motor (PSM), and all the power electronics a battery-powered supercar or luxury boat could ever need.
With Porsche’s 800-volt technology, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air can be charged at DC fast-charging stations or hooked up to AC chargers. The watercraft can house up to nine passengers at once, complete with a swimming platform located at its rear.
Within its interior is a generous lounge area with two sun pads for soaking up the rays, while a central aisle connects the back of the yacht to the free-standing helm and cockpit at the front. In addition, there are two bimini tops for shade, a premium sound system, and a refrigerator.
“With the all-electric Macan we want t provide the sportiest model in its segment. This is our stated development goal. And we have carried over this ambition in every detail to the boat. The eFantom offers the E-Performance typical of Porsche,” said Jörg Kerner, vice-president of Product Line at Macan.
“That the powerful electric motors of the latest generation and the start-of-the-art battery and charge management also work so well on the water is a testament to the excellence of our modular Premium Platform Electric,” he added.
