Hennessy Celebrates 50 Years Of Hip-Hop With Personalized AI Album Covers
By Nicole Rodrigues, 03 Jul 2023
Hennessy is celebrating 50 years of hip-hop by collaborating with East Coast rapper Nas to create AI album covers from selfies. Hip-hop, which turns 50 this year, is believed to have originated on August 11, 1973, when 18-year-old DJ Kool Herc (Clive Campbell) and his friend Coke La Rock would host parties in the Bronx. However, there are various stories about its origins, owing to different interpretations of the genre.
Hennessy’s Rep Yours campaign pays tribute to the music scene’s innovators who played a pivotal role in bringing rap to the forefront of society and pop culture. As part of the celebration, a special bottle featuring Nas as the centerpiece and a never-before-seen ‘HenNASsy’ logo in classic NYC-inspired graffiti has been created. This bottle serves as a “love letter” to hip-hop, showcasing a handwritten note by Nas and his face accompanied by splashes of orange, white, and black.
Additionally, Nas has narrated a short film that delves into the genre’s history.
Jasmin Allen, Senior Vice President of Hennessy USA, stated, “Hennessy has been an undeniable mainstay in Hip Hop, intricately woven into the fabric of the genre and its global influence for decades. We’re proud to honor Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary with a pioneer of the art and culture–Hip Hop icon Nas–as we celebrate the debut of our collaborative Limited-Edition Bottle.”
As part of the celebration, fans can use an AI tool to turn their selfies into album covers that reflect various hip-hop eras. Furthermore, Team Hennessy will host unique celebrations in 14 different markets, rooted in each area’s history with the genre, recognizing that hip-hop’s impact varies from state to state, city to city, and even between neighborhoods.
The special-edition bottle will be available for purchase through retailers starting on July 23.
