Meow Mix Crawls Back Into The Era Of 90s With A Cat Boy Band
By Nicole Rodrigues, 20 Jul 2023
Cats are taking center stage with their purr-formance prowess in this new cat food advertisement. Meow Mix is getting jiggy with it and heading into the realm of boy bands with its own group, called Tabby 5.
The cat food company started its Remix campaign in 1974 and has since gone on to capture the one-word jingle in the style of music from various decades, such as R&B, Latin dance, and country. This time isn’t any different, and it even has an actual boy band member in the shape of JC Chasez from NSYNC backing it up.
The spot isn’t short on cheesy 90s music video tropes, and it includes five bi-pedal CGI felines decked out in denim and chains, dancing to the song with rain falling over them. The soulful harmonization and punchy “meows” make for a rather earworm-y effect that will have you mewling alongside your cat all day long.
The campaign is one the latest to come out of Publicis’ PS One and BBH US. It will launch on America’s Got Talent, across the brand’s socials, and on TikTok, where Chasez has invited fans to duet along with the song.
