Do you retreat to the alternative lives in your television as a form of escape, perhaps from problems relating to the heart? An upcoming Netflix original lets you take control of someone else’s love life—or mess it up.
The streaming giant has released the trailer for Choose Love, its first interactive rom-com. As its name and description suggest, the 77-minute film adopts a choose-your-own-adventure style that viewers may recognize in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
If you’ve ever yelled at your screen out of frustration of a protagonist’s choices, now’s your chance to set things right. Choose Love follows Cami Conway (played by Laura Marano), a recording engineer whose life is seemingly perfect. She has her dream job and is in a healthy relationship with her boyfriend Paul (Scott Michael Foster), and settling down with a family of their own appears to be the natural next step.
But something is still missing. And now you, the observer, have been endowed with the rare opportunity to make someone else’s decisions, whether for her career or relationships.

In the trailer, you’ll see Cami faced with a plethora of choices ranging from trivial to life-changing, with a handful of temptations in the mix. She reconnects with an ex and grapples with whether to kiss him, for example.
“Cami feels like she’s missing out on life, but she isn’t quite sure how,” teases Netflix in the synopsis. “Maybe she’s afraid of settling down for good with her boyfriend, Paul. Or perhaps she regrets abandoning the singing career she’d always dreamed of. What if Paul isn’t meant to be her forever? What if Rex, the Brit musician, is? And what about Jack, the proverbial ‘one who got away,’ who’s now suddenly back in the picture?”
“As Cami faces an array of choices ranging from the seemingly innocuous to some major ethical dilemmas, viewers help her decide exactly what to do,” Netflix continues.
Viewers can play Cupid or cause drama when Choose Love comes knocking on their door this August 31.
