LEGO Debuts Workshops With Renowned Creatives To Knock Down Boundaries Of Play
By Alexa Heah, 04 Aug 2023
Looking to spark the imagination of young creators everywhere, LEGO has joined forces with popular creatives from across the globe to introduce a series of free workshops.
Designed to provide children with the freedom they need to express themselves, these workshops are part of the Play Unstoppable initiative, which celebrates the boundless potential of kids when they’re encouraged to play without limits.
According to the brand, the workshops are set to inspire creativity and self-expression through LEGO play.
From dreaming up characters with design visionary Cabeza Patata to building new gaming worlds with renowned narrator Lauryn Alexandria (aka Toastymarshmellow) and expressing unique style with DIY queen Jessie Bluegrey, young creators will have a platform to show that they can be anything they want and create anything they put their mind to with LEGO.
Cabeza Patata and Lauryn Alexandria will be leading interactive workshops in London and New York, while Jessie Bluegrey will be hosting a meet and greet for fans in Munich. Themed online workshops featuring all the creatives will also be accessible at LEGO.com/kids and the LEGO Life app.
Moreover, additional workshops inspired by the aforementioned creators will take place in LEGO stores across Europe, the USA, and Canada from August to October.
The inspiration for these workshops comes from a worldwide study conducted by the Geena Davis Institute. The study surveyed 6,844 parents and children aged six to 14 years old, revealing that girls are increasingly confident to engage in all types of play and creative activities. However, they still face obstacles due to ingrained gender stereotypes.
As per the study, 91% of parents observe their children experimenting with new ideas and concepts through play, and 88% of children love play because there is no right or wrong way to do it. The Play Unstoppable workshops aim to champion and unlock creative self-expression in all children, regardless of their chosen style of play and creation.
Two one-off and individually themed workshops will be hosted free of charge at the LEGO Store Leicester Square in London. Here, children aged six to 12 will have the opportunity to explore their passions through creative building, encouraging experimentation and expression without constraints.
In Munich, a free meet-and-greet with DIY design queen Jessie Bluegrey will be held, encouraging children to showcase the wonderful designs they created during her online workshop in person.
For those unable to visit a storefront, the virtual Play Unstoppable Creativity At Home workshops will provide an opportunity to experiment with LEGO bricks and express creativity from the comfort of home.
