Lancôme x The Louvre Embody Museum’s Artwork In New Line Of Cosmetics
By Nicole Rodrigues, 29 Aug 2023
The Louvre, home to over 33,000 art and cultural treasures, is a testament to the timeless genius of artists across epochs. The connection between these classical sculptures and contemporary beauty resonates deeply in our modern world, offering a reflection of the ageless attributes that define beauty—confidence, grace, and the unwavering acceptance of oneself.
In an unexpected collaboration between Lancôme and the museum, the beauty brand seeks to channel the spirit of the Louvre’s sculptures, acknowledging that true beauty transcends time and trends, and represents the very essence of the shared human experience.
For instance, the Lancôme x Louvre Richelieu Wing Palette pays a graceful tribute to Corine, a fifth-century BC Greek poet. Meanwhile, the Lancôme x Louvre Advanced Génifique Serum draws inspiration from Hygie, the goddess symbolizing health and well-being.
Lancôme’s quartet of L’Absolu Rouge Drama Matte Lipsticks from the range looks to four classical muses.
French Drama draws artistic cues from the ethereal Sleeping Hermaphrodite, while French Tea pays homage to the graceful Diane de Gabies. Celestial Rose encapsulates the spirit of Nymph Echo, and French Touch channels the essence of Nymph with a Scorpion.
One common thread binds these chosen sculptures: they represent women unapologetically confident in their skin. This collection looks to celebrate feminism, melding success with womanhood and showcasing contemporary works of art that resonate with real women.
“Pop culture—the culture of moving images, advertising, social media and our daily lives—is often inspired by these timeless images and representations, sometimes very scholarly, sometimes very ancient. The Musée du Louvre collections are surprising and captivating in their ability to provide a reading and an understanding of how these canons transform, how they can be interpreted, and how they evolve,” says Laurence des Cars, President-Director of the Musée du Louvre. “With this collaboration, the Louvre as a modern-day artistic space is contributing to the rewriting of beauty in the present.”
The collection is now available online through Lancôme’s website.
