Spotify has been on a recent kick of using artificial intelligence to help you find music that suits your mood and your day. After introducing its AI DJ and personalized Daylists, which changes playlists based on the time of day and your listening habits, it looks like the music streaming platform is trying out a new type of AI-generated playlists.
Product designer Chris Messina’s Threads account revealed screenshots of a new feature in development, suggesting that users might soon be able to create personalized soundtracks using text prompts.
What this sounds like is that users can input a word or phrase as they would into image generators, and Spotify would produce music based on that. While this might take away some of the magic of hand-picking your own selection of songs, it could make for a fun way to explore new genres based on a mood or feeling.
The speculation hints at integrating this feature into Spotify’s existing Blend, a collaborative tool that lets friends create shared music selections. Introducing AI-generated soundtracks could further enhance the Blend experience, creating harmonious playlists catering to individual tastes.
The potential feature comes on the heels of other recently announced ventures the platform has made including an AI podcast language translator and a function called ‘Jam’ that lets up to 32 people collaborate on a playlist in real-time.
As of now, Spotify has yet to confirm or deny the existence of the feature.
