Canned Water Brand Resorts To Hypnotizing The Public To Stop Plastic Waste
By Alexa Heah, 30 Oct 2023
Despite the numerous green campaigns that have come and gone, it’s no secret that plastic consumption continues to pose a problem globally, resulting in a significant threat to our environment.
In response, canned water brand Cano Water has turned to a unique method of convincing Brits to let go of single-use plastic: hypnosis.
Partnering with the creative agency 10 Days London, the company tapped the popularity of viral hypnosis videos in action to draw attention to their cause.
In a captivating spot, professional hypnotist Damien O’Brien leads a hypnotherapy session—using wit and humor to guide the participants toward relinquishing plastic and embracing recyclable aluminum cans.
While the commercial comes across as lighthearted, Cano Water acknowledges that the country’s dependence on plastic is no laughing matter, with the majority of plastic sitting in overflowing landfills or polluting the oceans.
The brand hopes that the quirky video, as part of its ongoing #BreakUpWithPlastic movement, will serve as a reminder for the public to sever ties with single-use plastic for good.
Josh White, co-founder of Cano Water, told The Stable that a desperate situation required an insane idea, one “smart enough to drive home a serious message.”
The brand hopes that while viewers laugh in disbelief at the antics displayed in the video, it will help them rethink “their own plastic use” and its impact on the suffering environment.
