Nvidia is stacking up in the 3D content creation sphere with a series of alliances announced during GTC 2024 on Monday. These collaborations with creative industry leaders such as Shutterstock and Adobe will leverage artificial intelligence to streamline and democratize the 3D design process.
Cementing these efforts is Nvidia’s Edify, a multimodal generative AI architecture capable of producing creative content in various formats. Introduced last year, the framework’s latest update now allows users to dream up 3D objects from scratch using text descriptions or reference pictures. This means artists and designers can describe their vision, say, “ a sleek, chrome spaceship,” and watch a model appear on their screen.
Shutterstock’s 3D AI Generator
Shutterstock is getting in on the action early with its 3D AI Generator, integrating an API that lets creators tap into Edify’s capabilities to churn out 3D objects using text or visual inputs. This capability significantly reduces the time required for scene prototyping, allowing artists to concentrate on refining hero characters and objects. Trained on the stock library’s content, the service—now available in early access—also includes built-in safeguards to ensure the integrity of generated outputs.
Adobe Firefly takes wing in the 3rd dimension
Adobe’s collaboration with Nvidia is expanding too, with plans to incorporate Edify’s 3D generation tech into Creative Cloud and Firefly AI tools. This opens the door for millions of designers and content creators to access advanced AI-powered features and expand their creative horizons.
Getty gets some
Not so much focusing on how Nvidia can bring 3D creation to its table, Getty Images will lean into the AI giant’s smarts to bring custom fine-tuning to its Generative AI platform, enabling enterprise users to craft brand-complaint imagery to a T beginning this May.
“The services will feature a no-code, self-service method for companies to upload a proprietary dataset, review automatically generated tags, submit fine-tuning tasks and review the results before deploying to production,” explains Nvidia in a blog post.
Commercially-safe
Beyond speeding up workflows, the partnership addresses copyright concerns. Nvidia is keen on developing AI responsibly, using content from Shutterstock and Getty Images to ensure the 3D assets created by Edify are legitimate and copyright-safe.
The overall impact is a significant simplification of 3D content creation, making it faster, easier, and accessible to a broader audience.
