Your hotels with city or oceanfront panoramas have nothing on the (hint: otherworldly) views this new restaurant will provide. Space Perspective—the company offering luxury balloon rides to the edge of space—and fellow space travel firm SpaceVIP have unveiled a world-first dining experience in partnership with Rasmus Munk, the renowned chef behind Copenhagen’s famed, two-Michelin-starred Alchemist restaurant.
At his sky-high offshoot, Munk will tailor a multi-sensory feast aboard Space Perspective’s carbon-neutral Spaceship Neptune capsule and its six-hour odyssey for an exclusive group of six. For a stratospheric sum of US$495,000 per head, guests can expect an “aerogel-inspired” menu blending gastronomy, art, and science that’s designed to spark conversation about our relationship with the planet.
On plain old Earth, one of Munk’s dinners will set visitors back 4,900 kroner (US$460) and last four to six hours.
Elsewhere, Spaceship Neptune is equipped to ensure both comfort and connectivity. The capsule features a “mini-kitchen” for Munk's culinary creations, a well-stocked bar, and even a bathroom (essential for any six-hour journey). Patrons will be outfitted in bespoke attire by luxury skiwear brand Ogier.
Notably, the spaceflight—floating 100,000 feet above sea level—also boasts Wi-Fi, allowing diners to share their out-of-this-world experience with loved ones missing out on Earth.
Beyond the culinary experience, Spaceship Neptune touts the distinction of housing the first luxury space spa and lounge. Additionally, proceeds from the trip will be donated to the Space Prize, a New York City-based organization promoting gender equality in science and technology.
For foodies with astronomically large pockets and a sense of adventure, this could be the culinary adventure of a lifetime. After all, where else can you enjoy a Michelin-starred meal with a view of the entire planet?
