IKEA’s latest furniture is tipping the scales of safety. The Swedish giant has unveiled a new range of chests and dressers that comply with the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth (STURDY) Act, marking an industry-first for furniture safety.
The new STORKLINTA and GULLABERG ranges are built in with a patented ‘Anchor and Unlock’ mechanism, making them the first to directly adhere to STURDY’s guidelines and place safety—particularly for young children—as a top priority without compromising on style. Specifically, they are optimized to counteract toppling, a common hazard plaguing the furniture industry that has led to deaths.
The GULLABERG collection draws from IKEA’s Scandinavian design roots, offering framed sides, tapered legs, and a robust top for a classic look. Available in dresser and nightstand formats, the array comes in white and gray finishes, providing customers with versatility for different room styles.

Meanwhile, the STORKLINTA series takes a more modern approach, with clean lines, integrated handles, and spacious drawers meant to fit seamlessly into any home.

Both collections offer various sizes of dressers and nightstands, with STORKLINTA also featuring glass tops and PAX doors.

The development of the Anchor and Unlock solution was no small feat. The company’s rigorous process resulted in a mechanism that, when properly installed, allows multiple drawers to be opened simultaneously without risking a tip-over.
This technology, combined with wall anchoring, aims to provide IKEA customers with a safer option for their clothing storage needs.

Expressing her excitement about the designs, Melissa Myers, home furnishings business leader for IKEA US, comments, “At IKEA, we are always looking for ways to be innovative; while also keeping affordability, quality and safety top of mind. We are thrilled to introduce these new families with their timeless designs and innovative stability features. We hope our customers fall in love.”
While some items from the STORKLINTA and GULLABERG lines are already available in US stores and online, IKEA notes that certain pieces and finishes are currently in limited supply. With that, the company plans to roll out the full range of safety-enhanced designs nationwide this fall.
