Slovenia’s controversial wooden resident bearing the likeness of the US president is no more.
Last year, a 26-foot structure with Donald Trump’s signature hair, suit and red tie was set up northeast of Slovenia, the birthplace of Melania Trump. While his arm was raised to mimic both New York’s Statue of Liberty and Superman, there was a menacing side to him.
A built-in mechanism triggered the wooden display to open his mouth, revealing shark-like fangs.
Tomaz Schlegl, the sculptor of the work, said the construction was a commentary on populists, who he believed had “two faces:” a “humane and nice” version and a terrifying side not unlike a “vampire.”
Tourists soon flocked to the village, but disgruntled locals had threatened to torch it down by Halloween. The statue was thus moved to the village of Moravce.
Unfortunately, the statue could not escape its fate, as it was eventually burned down by unidentified arsonists on Thursday.
Slovenian police are currently investigating the scene in hopes of identifying the culprits.
