Pornhub might need to grab some tissues to clean up its website, as the adult content platform is being sued by a deaf man for not heeding viewers who have hearing impairments.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Yaroslav Suris has filed a class-action lawsuit claiming that Pornhub has failed to add closed captioning to its content, and is thus restricting the enjoyment of people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The man is apparently a subscriber of the platform’s premium membership, but feels he is not getting bang for his buck as he is unable to understand the dialogue in some footage. Videos cited include “Hot Step Aunt Babysits Disobedient Nephew,” “Sexy Cop Gets Witness to Talk,” “Allison comes to Talk About Money to Her Boys’ Naughty Father,” and “Daddy4k.”
The complaint details that Pornhub is violating the hearing-impaired’s rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Suris is asking not only for the website to bring more customization options for people with hearing disabilities, but is also seeking monetary compensation for “damages.”
In response to the complaint that the website has been neglecting accessibility needs, Pornhub’s vice president Corey Price emphasized to TMZ that Pornhub does have a category of videos with closed captioning.
“While we do not generally comment on active lawsuits, we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that we do have a closed captions category.”
According to The Daily Dot, Pornhub’s ‘Closed Captions’ section has 410 videos, while its ‘Amateur’ category has nearly 290,000.
Back in June 2018, Pornhub was sued by a man for publishing his photo on its website without his knowledge. The individual had asked for US$3 million in damages.
