While it’s not explicitly stated, most adhesive bandages are manufactured to camouflage against skin. Obviously, they don’t appear invisible across multiple complexions.
British grocery chain Tesco is patching things up—it is now retailing a range of adhesive bandages for various skin tones, and is apparently the first UK supermarket to do so.
The house brand bandages are now available in three shades—light, medium, and dark—and are selling for just £1 (US$1.29) per pack. Tesco reportedly got the idea to launch diverse versions after coming across a viral Twitter post from a man who finally found “a ‘band-aid’ in my own skin tone.”
It’s been a long time coming, and Tesco has acknowledged the belated debut of nude bandages with an ad produced by creative agency BBH London.
The clever tagline, “About bloody time,” features a dark plaster over the word “bloody,” as if patching a wound.
Advertising and copywriting enthusiasts are revelling at the brilliant copy. “This is the some of the best advertising I’ve ever seen,” tweeted talent manager Hywel Kennedy.
“Brilliant work guys,” commended Twitter user Shakira Connolly. “Simple, effective, nailed it.” Another user said it was deserving of a “yellow pencil.”
