Always keeping in line with its schedule, it’s easy to figure out when Apple will release new products and what they’ll roughly be. This year, though, it’s going to be more challenging to guess what’s coming next as a result of the coronavirus’ continual spread.
It has been rumored for months that Apple will drop a “budget” iPhone 9—an update to iPhone 8—a MacBook Pro and possibly an iPad Pro in March 2020, among other gadgets. Evidently, production is going to slow down because Apple’s manufacturing mostly takes place in China, which is on lockdown.
Voice AI expert Brian Roemmele said he had been told by insiders of Apple that “at least one new product announcement” will not happen in time until fall 2020 “for an array of reasons,” citing “supply uncertainties.”
In addition, Roemmele tweeted that Apple is considering changing the format of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, when it typically reveals major software upgrades and one or two products, to stay safe from COVID-19.
In the same vein, the tech giant also confirmed that it will no longer participate in SXSW, where it was expected to release three new Apple TV+ originals: Spike Jonze’s Beastie Boys Story, docuseries Home and animated series Central Park.
It is believed that Apple meant to switch up its release cycle starting this year, with iPhones debuting in the spring and fall. The flagship models should arrive in the later part of the year.
Just got news from a few friends inside of Apple. At least one new product announcement will not take place, until the fall for an array of reasons: #WWDC2020 delay and supply chain uncertainties. https://t.co/wtjGUlnC9E
