A luxury fashion website has been sending shivers down people’s spines after retailing a bag crafted from the “ethically sourced” bones of a child.
Twitter users came across the grotesque piece on The Conventional, an online store that prides itself in offering out-of-the-ordinary work from avant-garde fashion designers. The one-off, built-to-order Arnold Putra design was described to feature alligator tongue and a human spine handle.
The materials were said to be “ethically sourced and crafted in a multiple panel construction” to create “an ideal statement piece.”
As reported by Boing Boing, the listing was taken down soon after internet users denounced the bag.
One Twitter user reached out to the website for clarification on the materials used, and a representative responded, “I have asked [the designer] for an in-depth explanation, but I actually think he travels so much he wasn’t 100-percent sure on the exact location or tribe he picked them up from.”
The contact elaborated that the designer would “exchange luxury items with ancient tribes” to obtain items they consider to be valuable.
The absurd listing can still be viewed via a cached copy of the page. Avant-garde, or just plain outrageous?
