Minecraft gamers are building a life-sized Planet Earth within the virtual world itself. Since the Minecraft map is estimated to be around 1.6 billion square miles and the Earth is 197 million square miles, it is technically possible for this to happen.
Minecraft player PippenFTS began his ambitious project by using a cubic chunks mod, enabling unlimited height, depth and Terra one-to-one mod, which scans Earth’s surface from Google Maps and other data to create the 1:1 scaled Earth within the Minecraft Map. His Discord server dedicated to this project has more than 60,000 people involved.
PippenFTS told VICE that he wants to make the virtual Earth “as accurate to the real thing as possible.” The Planet Earth project in Minecraft has a Patreon, a Reddit group and an active Discord at the moment.
