Melania Trump has shared a photo of herself wearing a face mask to encourage the public to stay protected in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
“As the CDC studies the spread of #COVID-19, they recommend people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when social distancing can be hard to do,” the first lady advised. “Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing.”
The photo in the tweet comes after FLOTUS posted a video of herself carrying a paper surgical mask in her hands while emphasizing the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
Her overall message, though, contradicts the president’s actions, who has made it very clear that he will not be wearing one, Mashable reported.
Trump said in a news conference in April that he chose not to don one because it is not within “mandatory guidelines” to wear one.
“I just don’t choose to. They are not mandatory guidelines, they are guidelines. They suggest you could wear them, you don’t have to wear them,” he said.
“Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens—I just don't see it," the president elaborated.
