The Singapore Zoo closed off its premises following the implementation of a semi-lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Since then, African penguins in Singapore Zoo were taken on little tours around the empty rainforest park to explore various areas outside of their own exhibit. The penguins were seen waddling around playgrounds and visiting other animals, including the Orangutans, during their stroll in sunny Singapore.
Wildlife Reserves Singapore told local news outlet Mothership that the penguins have been out and about two to three times per week after the recent closure.
These African penguins are able to live in environments with temperatures of up to 20ºC (68ºF). Therefore, the zookeepers bring them out during the early mornings when the weather is cool and comfortable for the penguins.
The zoo also explained that the walks are beneficial to the penguins, as they offer new enriching experiences and keep them mentally and physically stimulated.

Across the world at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, penguins were also taken outside of their exhibits to meet other marine animals during the coronavirus outbreak.
