Donald Trump has signed an executive order to limit social media companies, including Twitter.
The order requests the Federal Communications Commission to look into the Communications Decency Act, which allows social media companies to protect what is being posted on their platforms.
Seated in the White House, Trump announced his decision to a group of reporters. At one point, he even stated, “There’s nothing I’d rather do than get rid of my whole Twitter account,” before showing off his follower count on various social media platforms.
The president had signed the order after his tweets were flagged as “misleading” by Twitter earlier this week. The social media company added a fact-checking page to two of his tweets, which it said were “potentially misleading,” to provide “context” to the users on the platform.
Trump, however, was not pleased with Twitter’s action, as he declared that the social media company was “stifling free speech.”

TRUMP: If Twitter were not honorable…I think you shut it down, as far as I’m concerned.

REPORTER: And how would you shut down an American company?
TRUMP: I don’t know. I’d have to ask the lawyers. I’d have to go through a legal process.
