Sneaker juggernauts Nike and adidas have overlooked their differences to join hands and rally for the end of racism following the death of George Floyd.
Floyd, an unarmed African-American man, lost his life after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pinned him on the ground and knelt on his neck. The untimely death sparked protests and demonstrations in several cities across America to urge the end of racism and violence.
On the heels of the incident, the two rivals in the sneaker industry have formed an alliance to shed light on racial injustice. Nike released a public service announcement video against racism called, “Let’s all be part of the change.” In the video, Nike switches up its tagline with the message, “For once, don’t do it.”
“Don’t pretend there’s not a problem in America,” the video echoed the sentiment felt by many protestors in the US at the moment.
The spot was later shared by adidas with the message, “Together is how we move forward. Together is how we make change.”
