On Monday, President Donald Trump made the highly controversial move of going over to the front of St John’s Episcopal Church to take photos with a copy of the Bible in his hand. Church leaders revealed that, along with protesters present, they were teargassed by police officers so there would be a clear path for Trump to stand on.
POTUS had called for a citywide curfew following the protests sparked by the killing of George Floyd. Moments after he announced the curfew and claimed himself the president of “law and order,” he was seen standing in front of the church.
When a reporter asked, “Is that your Bible?” Trump responded, “It is a Bible.” Questions about Trump’s intentions by holding the Bible ensued, and some wondered if he was simply using it as a prop.
Separately, internet users have taken it upon themselves to turn the photo of Trump holding the Bible into fodder for memes.
In one photo, the president is photoshopped to be holding the retro Sooty puppet, and another pictures him as an advocate for cheeseburgers.
