A Kentucky tattoo parlor is allowing free appointments for those who wish to cover up hate symbols or gang tattoos.
Tattoo artists Jeremiah Swift and Ryun King from the Gallery X Art Collective have debuted this service as a way to unite communities and take a stance in the Black Lives Matter movement.
They posted the initiative on Facebook, and according to Swift, they have received over 30 requests about the free coverups since then. Some clients who opted for the service include a man with forearms covered in hate symbols and another who had a giant swastika inked on his body.
The artists hope to cover up these tattoos to give people a chance to “change themselves for the better,” CNN reported.
Their first client was Jennifer Tucker, who had a Confederate flag tattoo on her ankle. She explained that she came from a community where there were no Black families around. If a Black person moved in, he or she would be chased out. The community also flew rebel flags and inked rebel flag tattoos, so Tucker jumped on the bandwagon and had the design done when she was 18, which she later reflected to be a “horrible thing to do.”
Now, Tucker gets involved in peaceful protests to fight against racial injustice.
Her once-Confederate flag tattoo is now a flower design and an image of the infamous Pickle Rick from Rick and Morty.
This goes for you that have gang tattoos as well.
