Wherever you may be, you’ll probably have a McDonald’s nearer to you than a Burger King. That’s going to make a Whopper less accessible than chicken nuggets—unfortunate news if you have a total craving for the burger.
This is also a reality in Helsinki, where a McDonald’s restaurant can be found residing in almost every district. Not to keep fans deprived, Burger King Finland came up with a clever solution that piggybacked on its rival’s prominence in the city: it turned McDonald’s into its own takeout restaurants.
The fast-food chain placed outdoor adverts outside its competitor’s locations, promising free delivery from 29 June to 1 July if patrons requested to pick up their meals from the Golden Arches’ addresses.
“Nearly every district in Helsinki has a McDonald’s restaurant. Sadly Burger King is not quite as common,” described brand manager Kaisa Kasila. “We feel for the Whopper-less city dwellers of these regions. We know how it feels like to yearn for the taste of our juicy flame-grilled burgers. But lucky for them, there’s an easy fix.”
