MTV will carry out its iconic Video Music Awards this year in New York City amid the coronavirus pandemic.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the event will take place on 30 August 2020 at the Brooklyn’s Barclays Center arena with “limited or no audience,” per CNN.
The network later released a statement clarifying that the event will include extensive social distancing measures, capacity restrictions, “the virtualization of components where possible, and limited capacity or no audience.”
Ultimately, the main priority of the 2020 VMAs would be the health and safety of the musicians, fans, industry members, staff, and partners.
The longstanding event hopes to bring fans all around the world together, as well as celebrate the “strength, spirit, and incredible resilience of NYC and its beloved residents.”
