How has this time of introspection inspired you? For residents of the Sydmar Lodge Care Home in the suburban town of Edgware in north London, they got busy channeling iconic album covers to a stunning T.
While the elderly is especially vulnerable in this crisis, it doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. The seniors, along with the nursing home’s carers, posed in a creative photo series mirroring the famous album art of Adele, Queen, Taylor Swift, David Bowie, Madonna, and more.
Robert Speker, the nursing home’s Activities Coordinator, said the project was introduced to keep the residents entertained, now that they have been in lockdown for four months. “It’s been my job and privilege to keep them entertained during the COVID crisis with no outside entertainers or family,” he described. He has since shared the impressive recreations on Twitter to mass acclaim.
Even though the main aim of the project was to keep the elders occupied, Speker stressed that “it could be months before the [ongoing] situation changes for them.” As such, he hopes to “make their time as happy and full of enjoyment and interest as possible.”
This includes realizing their humanitarian needs too, as residents have divulged their wish for proceeds from the series to be donated to charity, so Speker has started a GoFundMe page to fulfill this aspect. Donations will go to nonprofits Alzheimer’s UK and Dementia Friends.
