The British royals have launched their own gin label, but it appears that not everyone is in good spirits over the new Buckingham Palace Gin.
Ryan Reynolds, owner of Aviation Gin, certainly had not expected to run against the Queen in this business, and has jokingly decried this act of “one-upmanship.” In response to the debut, he took to Instagram with a fake receipt claiming that he had “pre-ordered” a bottle of Buckingham Palace Gin to be delivered to The Beatles’ Sir Paul McCartney.
The faux invoice for “Order #2CH33KY” reads, “Dear Ryan Reynolds, thank you for ordering Buckingham Palace Small Batch Dry gin.” However, it’s unlikely that McCartney will ever receive the bottle because Reynolds had deliberately filled out the incorrect billing, shipping, and payment details.
Reynolds put his name under who the order would be billed to, but indicated his address as, “1 Upsmanship Much Dr, Notcoolington, WTF FML, United Kingdom.” And while he had kindly opted to gift the bottle to McCartney, the singer’s address was written as, “221B Baker Street, Downton Abbey Rd, 1D4 LYF, United Kingdom.” It’s more probable for it to go to a very confused Sherlock Holmes instead.
Reynolds selected “Loonie” as his payment mode and opted for the gin to be shipped via the “Royal Space Force.”
In all seriousness, he’s likely welcoming of the unprecedented gin rival. The royal family is retailing the spirit for a good cause, and is donating proceeds from gin sales to the Royal Trust Collection.
As described on the family’s website, the Queen’s gin is a “unique royal origin” blend of “lemon, verbena, hawthorn berries and mulberry leaves” handpicked from Buckingham Palace’s own gardens. It’s priced at £40 (US$50.50) and is now open for preorders.
