As much as what the battery icon above tries to tell you, Apple users don’t think it’s 100%.
Apple’s new desktop update, macOS Big Sur, comes packed with massively redesigned icons to create more visual unity with those in iOS while retaining its own aesthetic. The new Mac icons follow a skeuomorphic design, with drop shadows and greater detail to mimic their real-world counterparts.
While the incredible attention to detail in these icons has left design lovers in awe, many who downloaded the beta software weren’t so juiced up about what Apple had done to the battery graphic.

The revamped look was likened by some internet users to a “condom.” Some also thought it looked “cheap,” as if it was designed by someone who only had Microsoft Paint.
Thankfully, the update’s third beta for developers shows that Apple has been listening to these gripes, and has reverted the design to one that users would be more used to while staying true to the new visual language.
