If you’ve ever wanted to move to Europe and work remotely from the country, now is your chance, as the Republic of Estonia has launched a new Digital Nomad Visa to let you do just that.
The first-of-a-kind visa in the European Union will let remote workers live and legally work in the country for up to a year. Applicants will have to prove that their job can be done remotely and that they are either employed by a company registered outside of Estonia, self-employed with a business filed outside of the country, or freelancers who work with clients based outside of the nation.
Hopeful candidates will also need to reach a minimum gross income requirement of US$4,130 per month for six months before the application.
The government has released an application form that applicants will have to file before holding a meeting with their nearest Estonian embassy to submit the form, as well as the necessary documents to prove their employment status.
The application fee costs around US$94 to US$117 depending on the duration of stay, and each application will be processed within the next 30 days. Those with spouses and dependents will also be given a visa once the applicant is approved.
As the coronavirus pandemic is still prevalent in Estonia, a part of the European Union, it only allows a restricted number of approved countries outside of the EU, Schengen Zone, and the UK. The full list, which is updated every other week, can be viewed on Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website.
