The world is way past the point of believing that work-from-home desks are just temporary setups—Fisher-Price even recently rolled out a Home Office set for kids because there seems to be some permanency to this situation. If you haven’t by now, it’s time to treat your living room workspace like the real deal by ensuring it’s comfortable and optimized for productivity.
Fire up classical office noises if you must, or set up some boundaries that segregate your remote-working from domestic life to eliminate distractions. Panasonic has something for the latter; the Japanese electronics company has just introduced self-assembly cubicles to recreate your semi-private space back at the office in your living room.
The DIY desk partition is called Komoru, which, according to Spoon & Tamago, translates to mean “seclude oneself.” It promises about a meter square (10.8 square feet) of semi-private space and comes with a dark minimalist desk designed to fit harmoniously into any living room.
The Komoru desk is surrounded by a 120-centimeter (47.2-inch) double-sided perforated board wall that can be decorated to suit your personality, or the corporate facade you put up at back in the day.
Panasonic designed the cubicle following its survey that revealed 70-percent of respondents wanted to continue working from home even after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as its discovery that 50 percent have built their remote-working offices within their living rooms.
The desk is planned for release on 18 September with a suggested retail price of JP¥88,000 (US$834).
