Amazon Prime Air has just received approval to be an “air carrier” by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This means that the company can begin trial flights for drone package deliveries.
Amazon Prime Air will utilize autonomous unmanned drones to deliver packages to customers, according to Bloomberg. This system will be particularly handy during health situations, like COVID-19, or weather-related crises.
“This certification is an important step forward for Prime Air and indicates the FAA’s confidence in Amazon’s operating and safety procedures for an autonomous drone delivery service that will one day deliver packages to our customers around the world,” David Carbon, Amazon vice president, who manages Prime Air, said in a statement.
