Are you always inclined to use reliant old Arial and swear by lifestyle images? If so, good news—you’ve accomplished something you wished to do in high school, which is to fit in with everyone else. You’re also officially bland.
If you’re looking to widen your horizons of monotony, you’re in luck. A year after dishing out hilarious advice on how to bring the bland out of your brand, copywriter Vikki Ross and Paul Mellor of ad agency Mellor&Smith have expanded their Bland Book project with new advice by industry experts on how else you can bring your Eh-game to the table. Because why sparkle and let the magpies catch you?
“We did it so brands and agencies would recognize themselves in it - either through work they’ve done or people they’ve worked with,” Ross told DesignTAXI in an email. “We want them to see that they shouldn’t produce anything bland as it’ll never compel consumers to take any notice.”
The new “Totally Mundane™” website encompasses tips by industry experts in creative, social, trends, diversity, strategy, SEO and PR so you’ll have a clearer idea on how to never stand out in any of these areas.
Just in case you’re working to win at blanding, there’s even a guide on creating awards entries that “no one will notice or remember.”
Every resource on the site is set in Arial and Calibri and washed in blue, white, and black. What other way is there to do it?
