Dunkin’ has amused fans for using a Blink-182 pun for an ad—but it turns out that the reference was just an accident.
The company unveiled its fall menu featuring sweet treats and decadent drinks. The offerings include the Pumpkin Spice Latte, apple cider donuts, pumpkin munchkins and maple sugar bacon sandwich.
To advertise this delicious lineup, Dunkin’ printed “All The Fall Things” on its ad, which seemed as though it had taken a spin on Blink-182’s All The Small Things.
The band’s fans noticed the phrase and took to Twitter to voice their opinions. “Us scene kids appreciate the gesture, @dunkindonuts,” a Twitter user wrote. “@dunkindonuts did @blink182 approve this copy?” another said.
Blink-182 itself saw the pun and shared the ad on its Instagram, writing, “We see you @dunkin.”
The company, however, has confirmed with AltPress that the wordplay was not intentional. Dunkin’s vice president of brand stewardship Drayton Martin said the tagline was not inspired by the band’s song, but the company is “honored” to receive positive comments from customers and fans of the band.
“While ‘All The Fall Things’ store signage wasn’t inspired by Blink-182’s popular song All the Small Things, we are honored with the positive response from the band and their fans and encourage them to enjoy a Signature Pumpkin Spice latte when they can!” Martin said.
