HBO Max is working on a television series spinoff from James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad. The show, titled Peacemaker, will see famed WWE wrestler John Cena taking on the titular role based on the DC comics.
Gunn is set to write all eight episodes of the first season, and even direct some of them. The show will dive deep into the character’s origin story and how he came to be the Peacemaker.
In an interview back in 2019, Cena described the character of Peacemaker as a “douchey Captain America,” which sounds like an interesting take on the beloved American superhero.
“Working alongside @JamesGunn on #SuicideSquad was an absolute masterclass in how to best bring beloved characters to life in a new and fun way,” Cena wrote. “I cannot wait for the #DCUniverse to experience more of absurdity that is the Peacemaker in this new project on @hbomax!”
