Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott enlisted the help of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop to stage a tiny runway show where no models nor guests were present.
For Milan Fashion Week, the duo created a Spring/Summer 2021 show on a miniature set showcasing 40 new looks using 30-inch marionettes. In a seven-minute short titled No Strings Attached, the fashion show featured a front row of marionettes of the fashion elite, including Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful and Nina Garcia.
“I tried to look at all of this as opportunities, not obstacles,” Scott told Variety. “My mantra has been from the very beginning, ‘My body may be in quarantine, but my mind isn’t.’ I’m a creative person who is extremely used to lots of people, travel, all these different things going on and to have everything just stop, I had to think about how to create and deliver the emotion of my work.”
According to Scott, all the clothes and accessories had to be scaled down to the size of the marionettes.
The runway show showed the puppets donning elegant dresses with oversized bows and tulle shirts and dramatic collars in soft pastel blues and pinks, as well as gold and black. The garments also featured inverted details, corset boning and underskirts coming out below the hemlines; and this has a narrative behind it.
“As the world seems to be splitting along the seams, the bare inner workings of something new will be exposed,” Scott said, referring to the impact of the coronavirus on the world.
Scott also created his lookalike for the show, which was depicted with a crown and a Moschino t-shirt.
