While Colonel Sanders’ famous recipe of 11 herbs and spices is top-secret and apparently inimitable, you can finally make your own KFC chicken at home, but with a twist. The fried chicken chain has released a series of free crochet patterns so you can always have some warm drumsticks at home.
To encourage more crafting at home, the restaurant teamed up with Melbourne-based artist Phil Ferguson, better known by followers as Chili Philly, to come up with the adorable templates. Ferguson is a self-taught crocheter, so he decided to create easy fried chicken-themed patterns that are “as simple for anyone to learn as possible, as that is how I taught myself!”
The first pattern features smiley ‘Li'l Drummies’ that are literally too cute to eat. Ferguson encourages beginners to craft more than one “so they can have their own little friends!”
After you have gathered enough drumsticks, they can all live together in their own ‘Drummy Bucket’, which is the second pattern in the collection.
It appears that there’ll be more templates to look out for in the following days and weeks, as Ferguson mentioned he’ll be posting additional KFC-inspired designs soon. It’s likely that each pattern will be more challenging than the last, so first-timers might want to start with the first design.
Stay tuned on Ravelry and the artist’s Instagram account for more crisp DIY ideas.
