Snack company Calbee has developed an edible sleep aid product with a sleep quality-inducing chemical.
Dubbed Nyumin, the dissolvable orange-scented strip contains crocetin—an ingredient found in crocus and gardenia flowers. This chemical is proven to improve your quality of sleep and decrease fatigue.
The product is part of the company’s long-term vision called Next Calbee, which aims to develop innovative food products using natural compounds by 2030.
Nyumin was in development over a period of 2.5 years by the company’s research team called Calbee Future Labo. The team decided to create the product after finding out that more solutions needed to be made to help those with sleeping problems.
The team decided to create Nyumin in a form of a dissolvable strip so that it can be consumed by people of all ages. It is advised for users to take the product directly before turning in.
One box of Nyumin containing seven strips retails for ¥1,080 (US$10.32).
