Nestlé Japan has combined the best of two worlds to create an unforgettable limited-edition KitKat.
The company has released a sophisticated version containing cacao nibs that were aged for 180 days in whisky barrels in Islay, Scotland.
In these barrels, the cacao beans are rotated once a week to ensure the aroma and flavor of the whisky are transferred to the beans. The barrels in Islay are known for their wonderful and unique smoky peat, creating a delicate whisky aroma and taste perfect with chocolate. According to Nestlé, the result is a dark chocolate that has a peaty whisky finish and aroma.
Priced at ¥324 (US$3.11), the Whisky Barrel Aged KitKats will be available to purchase at KitKat Chocolatory locations in Japan come 15 December.
