Barbie has always empowered little girls to follow their aspirations and achieve their goals. In the same vein, toy website TheToyZone has taken the opportunity to envision ‘Lizzie’, a Barbie inspired by the longest-reigning British monarch Queen Elizabeth II.
The company has created seven outfits of her Highness to highlight her momentous milestones in the past 75 years. The 1945 look was inspired from the time when the royal was known as the Princess, who became a junior officer in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS). To this day, Queen Elizabeth II is the only woman in British royalty to have served time in the military.
The next outfit nods at Coronation Day on 2nd June 1953. Elizabeth was dressed in a regal outfit when she took on the throne in the February of the year after her father’s passing.
The floral-themed gown takes inspiration from Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Malta in 1967. She had on a lapel topped with the Cullinan V Brooch, sliced from the largest diamond in history.
The 1987 Lizzie beams resemblance to Queen Elizabeth’s outfit from the biannual Order of the Thistle service in Edinburgh. She had on a green velvet mantle, black velvet hat, plume, and star of the Order of the Thistle.
In 1988, Queen Elizabeth wore jodhpurs, riding boots, and a tweed hacking jacket for the Royal Windsor Horse how. The ensemble inspired the 1988 Lizzie with a similar getup.
Her Highness put on a sequined top and a yellow skirt for the 1999 Royal Variety Performance gala show. She paired the out with a dashing gold Launer handbag and a pair of silver shoes. The garb is recreated onto the 1999 Lizzie doll.
Finally, TheToyZone presented the 2016 doll commemorating the celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday on 21 April 2016. The reimagination sees Elizabeth in a matching green suit and hat with black loafers and a pearl necklace.
