Xiaomi has announced its new flagship phone for 2021: the Mi 11.
The Mi 11 is powered by the Snapdragon 888 and is the first-ever phone to implement a Night Mode for video. The phone has computational photo and video applications that allow you to capture photos in low light beautifully.
The computational information in phones normally captures light over a certain period before merging those frames together, resulting in an enhanced image. While this method works for photos, it requires a different approach for videos.
To make this possible for videography, Xiaomi partnered with AI-powered imaging enhancement solutions company Blink AI to create a deep-learning software that allows the device to deliver amazing results when shooting video in low light conditions. BlinkAI’s processing software, combined with Qualcomm’s Neural Processing Unit on the Snapdragon 888, transforms noisy, low-quality video frames taken in low light into beautiful ones within milliseconds.
According to BlinkAI, the technology that is built on the Neural network framework resembles the way the human visual system works and is based on its “groundbreaking deep learning imagine research.”
Its aim is to help the camera hardware capture images under challenging settings, in the way the human vision does. BlinkAI explains that its computational solutions allow illumination to be amplified up to five times, and the results can be seen in the video below.
Xiaomi has also shared a video that shows how shooting at night is much clearer now, thanks to BlinkAI’s technology.
