Gucci is venturing out of opulent indoorsy clothing, and has teamed up with The North Face to blend outdoor essentials with luxury.
To get fans pumped up for the collaboration, the duo have commissioned murals across the major cities of New York City, London, Milan, and Shanghai, that visualize the Gucci x The North Face collection’s 70s-themed pieces and imagery.
A giant quilt down jacket is depicted keeping Milan’s Largo la Foppa toasty, while vibrant flowers bring nature closer to the Hong Kong metropolis. Other locations flaunt the Gucci x The North Face co-branding, a combination of The North Face’s triple curved lines and Gucci’s green and red stripes.
In hopes to bring more appeal to active living, the two companies are working in another project with Pokémon GO. However, details for this remain skant.
Gucci has also created a documentary—filmed by Sean Vegezzi in the Alps mountain range, Rome, Sierra, and New York—about the relationship between nature and human beings. The video paints an alternative outdoor lifestyle, “where beauty and function necessarily coexist,” and spotlights interviews with Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, The North Face design manager for global collaborations, archives and special projects Nina Williams, and professional rock climber Post AOW.
