When people have vacations at hotels or go out for dinner at fancy restaurants, it’s largely because of the service and the well-needed break from chores. Samsung’s concept robots bring this experience to your humble abode, so you’ll be able to check day-to-day tasks off your schedule with ease.
At this year’s CES event, the South Korean tech colossus unveiled a lineup of human-centered robot assistants to help you achieve the work-life balance you deserve.
One of them is the Bot Handy, a home robot with “handy” mechanics to help out with household chores. To do so, the assistant uses advanced AI to recognize objects at hand—as well as identifies the item’s shapes, material composition, sizes, and weights—to decide on how to work with them and carry them with “the appropriate amount of force.”
For example, it can distinguish a cup, and its glass material, as well as a plastic plate in the kitchen sink, and then carefully grab those and place them into the dishwasher with varying pressures in its grip.
Bot Handy can also set the table, clean up your rooms, put away groceries, and even pour you a glass of wine after a long day. Essentially, it is designed to be “an extension of you” by lending you a hand in everyday tasks.
And you don’t have to worry about dealing with grumpy service staff, because Bot Handy always does the job chirpily with a glimmer in its eye.
At its presentation, Samsung also unveiled a home robot called Bot Care that might be perfect for the work-from-home life. This bot depends on AI to learn and respond to your behavior as your personal assistant, serves as a movable stand for virtual meetings, and keeps you up to speed with your daily schedule.
These iterations are still in the planning stages, though the company does envision releasing home bots to the market in the near future.
