Lifestyle brand MUJI has launched its first furniture rental service in Japan.
Consumers in Japan will be able to rent out interior items and furniture at selected stores via annual subscription plans, and can choose between different-sized beds, tables, chairs and stackable shelves across 182 stores in the country.
They can also opt for annual subscriptions ranging from one to four years. For a four-year rental of a chair, for example, the monthly fee will amount from ¥300 to ¥400 (US$2.87 to US$3.83).
Once the contract is over, customers can choose to return the piece of furniture, extend their contract, or purchase it. If the furniture is returned, MUJI will rent it out again or refurbish it for retail.
The rental service is a great service for environmentally-conscious individuals or if you are staying for a short period of time in Japan.
