If the thought of spring cleaning has put you on procrastination mode, try dragging it out with IKEA’s decluttering game—the good kind of procrastination because you’ll learn a few things about home organization along the way.
Around the same time IKEA released a game centered around gender inequality for International Women’s Day on March 8, the furniture giant launched an augmented-reality filter which lets you play an escape room game within your room. The Escape the Clutter game, playable via the camera on Snapchat, challenges you to “[furnish] your way to freedom” by removing clutter and dragging and dropping IKEA products to keep belongings hidden.
The 3D “escape room” appears when you point your phone’s camera at an open and clear surface—so a little tidying up will be required before you play. It looks lived-in, with items strewn all over the place. Your task is to neaten things up with suitable storage options, like under-the-bed drawers and a PAX wardrobe.
Players can also learn more about each IKEA solution by tapping on it.
Sure, cleaning up hardly sounds like a game, but this is 2021. If there’s a chance to get our minds off things and escape from our living spaces for a while, we’ll gladly take it.
