Microsoft has announced its new Office suite for 2021, and among the key changes is its subscription model. While the firm said it is still focusing on its subscription-based productivity service, Microsoft 365, it will be releasing a one-time purchase Office 2021 for those who are not interested in subscribing to the cloud.
Along with the version for personal use will be a new commercial version called Office LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channel). According to CNET, Office LTSC will feature enhanced accessibility features, performance improvements across the board, and visual improvements such as dark mode support. This version of the Office suite is made for specialty situations in business, such as processing control devices on the manufacturing floor that aren’t connected to the internet.
Microsoft has said it will support the one-time-purchase software for five years, and has no plans to change the price as of now. Office 2021 will include both Windows and Mac versions, in 32- and 64-bit.
More details regarding pricing and other new features will be announced nearer to the date of release, which will take place in the second half of the year.
