If you think about it, octopi are perhaps four times more capable at multitasking than humans. One cephalopod at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, USA, is leveraging its heaven-sent assets by going down an artistic route.
As part of Farallon the octopus’ weekly recreational activities to stimulate her brain, which curiously includes puzzles, biologists of the aquarium handed her canvases with blobs of blue paint and let her get to work. The zoo shared the intriguing footage as part of cephalopod week.
A layer of plastic was placed over the paint, ensuring that her tentacles wouldn’t be tainted.
The intelligent creature took creative liberties and glided her tentacles around the canvases, producing two brand new abstract pieces. Impressively, she quite enjoyed the activity.
Explains biologist Halley Miller: “This was the first time we presented Farallon with this activity, she was very engaged with the canvases; using her arms and suckers to push around the paint.”
