Impossible Foods is slated to launch plant-based chicken nuggets this fall. According to a report by Bloomberg, the company will unveil the new faux meat product at a trade show next week, before it launches to a wider audience in the fall.
Earlier this month, faux-meat competitor Beyond Meat launched its own version of chicken tenders across US restaurants, but its chicken substitute is not for sale to the general public just yet.
As per CNBC, Impossible’s nugget contains soy protein and sunflower oil, but doesn’t include heme – an ingredient produced from genetically modified yeast. China and the European Union have banned the brand’s previous products for containing this ingredient, so it seems it will be producing new products without it in order to gain entry into the global marketplace.
Back in April, Reuters also reported that Impossible Foods could go public sometime in the next 12 months as part of an IPO or merger. The brand is rumored to be seeing a market valuation of at least US$10 billion, which would position it several billion dollars higher than Beyond Meat.
With alternative meat brands turning from beef to chicken, it’s no doubt we’ll be see more faux-chicken options in the grocery aisles by the end of the year.
