There’s a reason cat overlords have been thriving since the dawn of internet memes. Beneath the pompous demeanors are hairballs of chaos, and their solemn, “you dare mock me” faces make pictures all the more hilarious.
Now, you can recreate these vibes with the iPhone 12, and these compelling yet comical black-and-white pet portraits shots commissioned by Apple to celebrity photographer Jason Nocito are proof that it’s more than achievable. Nocito, who has worked with hotshots like George Clooney and Ariana Grande, has turned the lens to grumpy and clueless cats and dogs as part of Apple’s growing Shot on iPhone campaign, produced by its dedicated advertising agency TBWA/Media Arts Lab.
“You’re always seeing pets, and they’re funny. They’re funny pictures, but these pictures are kinda serious when you think about it. But also hilarious,” Nocito describes.
No professional studio is needed to create professional pet photos. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max’s High-Key Light Mono Portrait Lighting brings out the physical details you find most endearing about your animal companions, like their eyelashes or the stray whisker that can never be tamed.
To demonstrate the flagship smartphone’s photographic prowess further, Nocito will be hosting an online Today at Apple session on Thursday, July 29, from 12pm to 1pm ET, where he’ll share tips on taking photos of your pet, like how to steal its attention during shoots. The workshop will focus on snapping pictures of pets through Portrait mode and High-Key Light Mono.
