On grumpy mornings, your Keurig coffee maker is there to get you all chipper. For caffeine addicts, that essentially makes the machine their best friend. What else is there to ask for?
You see, for it to qualify as your best friend, it’d have to really know you—but Keurigs have been blindly dispensing coffee without truly understanding their users. And that’s where the new K-Supreme Plus Smart Coffee Maker comes in. It works with a brand-new ‘BrewID’ technology to let you finally customize your cuppa down to acidity and flow rate, and learns your preferences over time (actually picking your brain over a cup of coffee).
Your coffee machine can be connected to your Wi-Fi network and BrewID, a new mobile app, and quickly accesses your pod out of a catalog of over 900 compatible capsules. It then suggests brewing and customization parameters, such as whether to brew a larger or stronger cup, or your preferred temperature, per The Kitchn. Your choices become part of a so-called “coffee journal,” allowing the coffee maker to eventually recommend other coffees based on your preferences.
Keurig Experiences vice president Annie Oh says that the app is aimed to establish a “direct one-to-one connection with consumers.” While the machine learns, so too will users as they figure out how to brew the perfect coffee for themselves. For instance, “higher temperatures on a lighter-roast coffee brings out some of that acidity and brighter notes, while a lower temperature brings out some of the malty caramel notes.”
