IKEA’s foray into smart home furnishings that blend into their surroundings continues with its newest product announcement, a side table that doubles as an air purifier… or an air purifier that doubles as a side table.
The STARKVIND series consists of two air purifiers: a standalone version (US$129) and the side table model (US$189). While it can be used on its own, the system can also be linked up to the TRÅDFRI gateway, which allows users to control it via the IKEA home app. The app can then also be used to read the current indoor air quality.
As per the press release, the purifier runs on a three-filter system: one captures big particles such as hair and dust; the second removes smaller airborne particles like dust and pollen; the third is for gas cleaning which absorbs various pollutants. Plus, it reduces lingering odors such as those evoked by smoking and cooking.
In the tabletop model, which comes in light and dark wood, cable management is integrated into its legs. On the other hand, the standalone mode removes the eyesore nature of a traditional air filtration system, looking more like a high-end speaker.
STARKVIND will be available from October 2021 across IKEA’s retail channels.
“For IKEA, the smart home is not about gadgets. It’s about making life and home better through combining our solid home furnishing knowledge with digital solutions and technology,” explains Henrik Telander, product owner at IKEA.
Best of both worlds.
